At MFR Mediation, we understand that conflicts and disputes can arise in various aspects of life.  Whether it’s a family matter, a civil dispute or a business conflict, finding a fair and efficient resolution is crucial.

Mafé Rajul was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. She moved to the United States at the age of 17 to learn English.  Once fluent, she became a Court Certified Spanish Interpreter.  Her work as Court Interpreter led her to pursue her law degree.

Upon graduation she spent most of her time in the courtroom litigating cases before judges and juries. This experience helped her understand the complexity, advantages, and disadvantages of the adversary system, which ultimately resulted in her becoming a judge.

Mafé worked as a general jurisdiction trial judge in Washington State until October of 2022 when she relocated to Florida.  She was responsible for dependency cases, family law matters, civil cases, and felonies.

Mafé presided over many jury trials related to employment discrimination, medical malpractice, and personal injury. She handled numerous family law trials, including dissolutions, child custody, child support, visitation, spousal support, property division and allocation of debts and assets. She presided over many cases concerning parenting plans with allegations of domestic violence, substance abuse and/or mental health issues.

Mafé listens with compassion and empathy and is ideally suited to guide parties toward a fair resolution of their legal disputes.  Her combined courtroom experience of over 20 years allows her to assist the parties in identifying the root causes of the dispute and suggest creative solutions.  She is a great listener and has the ability to ensure that individuals feel understood when presenting their positions.  She had a reputation in the court for being practical, cutting through the nonsense while treating parties kindly and respectfully.

Prior to becoming a judge, Mafé worked as a legal advisor with the State Department in Honduras. Her command of the Spanish language and her deep understanding of cultural differences allowed her to successfully facilitate communications between government officials, both from the United States and Honduras, and Honduran citizens.
